A refreshing drink that helps relieve stress!
It’s a nice fall day here in the Pacific Northwest and I’m thinking a refreshing drink will go down nicely. I spent some time in the sun today going through my entire veggie garden and I couldn’t believe how my lemon balm plant has explodedfrom 1 plant to 10. Literally this plant has quadrupled in size since I planted it two months ago! Lemon balm is one of the easiest herbs to grow but it does have the ability to take over your garden, so containing in a pot might be a good idea. I made the mistake planting it in one of my veggie boxes, so today I decided to cut it back and make lemon balm mojitos.
Mojitos are one of my favorite cocktails. The combination of mint and lime is delicious and refreshing but I have also found that lemon balm and lime are equally as refreshing. Sometimes I will blend the two together for a minty lemon balm drink. So good!
Health warning! These Lemon Balm Mojitos may…
Reduce stress & anxiety
Help aid indigestion
This calming herb was used as far back as the Middle Ages to reduce stress and anxiety. Even before then, lemon balm was steeped in wine to lift the spirits, heal wounds, and fight infections. I’m thinking that the wine may have contributed to some of the feel good spirit lifting! Today, lemon balm is used in tinctures and teas, while the leaves are eaten or crushed to provide many health benefits such as being a stress reliever, sleep aid, appetite enhancer. And it may also help improve your digestive system!
Caution: Lemon balm may interfere with other medications, so speak with your health care practitioner before using.
